Australian Butterfly Sanctuary

Australian Butterfly Sanctuary

The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary in Cairns is set in the middle of the lush Kuranda rainforest and has been visited by over a million people since its opening! The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary's 3666 cubic metre aviary is home to over 1500 magnificent tropical butterflies that are hand reared on the premises. All are local rainforest species, including the electric blue Ulysses and the majestic fluoro green Cairns Birdwing. Both these and the smaller but equally colourful species, provide visitors with the unique experience of being surrounded by these habitually elusive wonders of nature.

30 minute guided tours through the aviary are available at no extra cost and occur regularly throughout the day, with informative facts delivered about the butterfly's life cycle and behaviour.

There are a range of tours available which include the Butterfly Sanctuary as part of their list of attractions due to their close to proximity to one another, such as our Cairns 4 Park Pass, to help you get the most out of the highlights of the region, so book a ticket today!
